Fundamental characterization of louisiana hma mixtures for the 2002 mechanistic-Empirical design guide

The mixtures were grouped in the order of their resistance to rutting, according to each parameter. Mixtures with grouping “A” indicate superior mix and grouping higher than “A” indicates inferior mix. Some of the mixtures which are statistically indifferent fall in the same group. In some cases when mixtures fall into more than one category i.e. A-B indicates that, this particular mix belongs to both the first and second group. The Tukey grouping showedthe flow time values classified all the mixtures into 3 statistical groups, as compared to the flow number value, which classified the mixtures into 7 statistical groups. This indicates thatflow number values are more sensitive to differences in mixtures properties than flow time value. Similarly all the other test parameters were divided intosignificant number of groups less than 7

A compound growth factor of 4% was used as shown in Figure 6. Default values provided by the 2002 M-E Design guide were used as shown in Figure8, Figure 9 and Figure 10. Initially the different layers and their thickness are provided. Then each layer is provided with inputs separately as shown in Figure 13. Figure 13 Constituents and thickness of various layers 204 3.1 Hot Mix Asphalt Layer In this section the dynamic modulus obtained at five different temperatures and six different frequencies are provided as input for Level 1 as shown in Figure 14. Crushed stone was assumed to be used in this layer of modulus 40,000psi. A modulus of 28,000psi was assumed for the sub-base layer. A modulus of 10,000psi was assumed for the sub-grade layer. Figure 22 Final analyses for saved project 213 VITA Sandeep Obulareddy was born on August 27th, 1979 in Andhra Pradesh, India. He finished his high school from Visakha Valley School, Andhra Pradesh, India, in 1997. He received his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management (GITAM), Andhra University, India in June 2002. He came to United States in the spring of 2003 to pursue his master’s degree in civil engineering at Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He expects to receive the degree of Master of Science in Civil Engineering in August 2006.
