Trong một nghiên cứu điều tra trên 1000 ng-ời đàn ông tr-ởng thành bị loạn dục cải
trang, Docter và Prince (1997) cho thấy 40% luôn luôn có khoái cảm tình dục hoặc cực
khoái khi họ mặc đồ phụ nữ, chỉ có 9% trong số này nói rằng họ ch-a bao giờ cảm thấy nh-
vậy. Cá nhân càng tr-ởng thành dần lên thì khoái cảm tình dục khi mặc đồ khác giới cũng
giảm dần, thậm chí có thể mất hẳn. Tuy nhiên mong muốn mặc đồ khác giới cũng có thể
vẫn tồn tại lâu dài, thậm chí còn mạnh dần lên, thậm chí có thể còn kèm theo cảm giác dễ
chịu. Thiếu cơ hội để mặc đồ khác giới có thể gây ra trầm cảm hoặc bực bội. Do vậy điều
dễ hiểu là nhiều ng-ời loạn dục cải trang vẫn mặc đồ lót phụ nữ bên trong đồ lót nam giới.
Trong số những ng-ời đ-ợc Docter và Prince (1997) điều tra, 87% số này cho rằng họ hoàn
toàn có đời sống tình dục khác giới; 83% đã có vợ hoặc đã từng lấy vợ tại thời điểm điều
tra; 32% số bà vợ của những ng-ời này đã biết chồng mình mặc đồ lót phụ nữ tr-ớc khi làm
đám c-ới; 28% hoàn toàn chấp nhận hành vi này khi đã biết; trong khi đó 19% hoàn toàn
phản đối. Một điều cũng th-ờng gặp nữa là những ng-ời loạn dục cải trang th-ờng bỏ đ-ợc
thói quen mặc đồ phụ nữ ngay trong những tháng hoặc năm đầu tiên khi có bạn gái, mặc dù
vẫn có những ng-ời thỉnh thoảng lại thích mặc trở lại. Nhiều ng-ời thích sự giao hợp với
phụ nữ một cách “bình th-ờng” trong khi đó một số lại thích mang đồ lót nữ để đạt đ-ợc
khoái cảm tình dục.
Do xã hội có thể phản ứng rất mạnh nên những hành vi loạn dục cải trang th-ờng
xuất hiện ở những nơi có thể đ-ợc chấp nhận nh- ở gia đình, ở các câu lạc bộ hoặc tổ chức
của những ng-ời loạn dục cải trang. Tuy nhiên Docter và Prince (1997) cũng thông báo có
đến 71% số ng-ời trong mẫu nghiên cứu mặc đồ khác giới công khai: 10% mặc khi đi xe
buyt hoặc xe lửa, 28% mặc khi đi ăn ở nhà hàng, 26% sử dụng toa lét phụ nữ và 22% tìm
cách l-u trữ quần áo phụ nữ. Khi đ-ợc hỏi thích là giới nào, 11% vẫn muốn là đàn ông,
28% muốn trở thành phụ nữ và 60% là lựa chọn ngang nhau.
Một số ng-ời cảm thấy ân hận và xấu hổ về những ý nghĩ và hành vi của mình.
Những cá nhân nh- vậy có thể nhiều lần nỗ lực để trở thành bình th-ờng nh-ng không
thành công. Họ có thể phá bỏ tủ đựng quần áo phụ nữ của mình sau đó lại s-u tầm, tích trữ
đồ phụ nữ trong nhiều tuần hoặc nhiều tháng. Chu kỳ nh- vậy có thể lặp đi lặp lại ở những
ng-ời trẻ tuổi, những ng-ời mà sau này dễ dàng chấp nhận hơn những cảm giác của mình.
Trong mẫu nghiên cứu của Docter và Prince, 70% đã từng phá tủ quần áo ít nhất 1 lần, 45%
đã từng nhờ cậy đến t- vấn.
